Multi-branch
Several shops. One set of books.
Each branch keeps its own stock, its own document numbers and its own figures — and you can see all of them together whenever you want.
Transfers
Sending and receiving are two separate steps.
Most systems move stock from one shop to another in a single click. That is not what happens — the goods are in a van for two days.
Vertbooks splits it. Sending takes the stock off the first branch’s shelf. Receiving puts it on the second branch’s shelf. In between, the stock belongs to the transfer, and you can see it there with a number on it.
If it arrives in parts, receive it in parts. Whatever is still missing stays missing until it turns up or someone says it never will.
Lifecycle
Four states, and only one of them is uncertain.

Draft
A list of what is going. Nothing has moved yet, and it can still be changed or cancelled.

In transit
Sent. The stock has left the first branch and has not arrived anywhere yet. This is the state that exists to be seen.

Received
Everything that left has been booked in at the other end.

Closed short
Some of it never arrived. Closed with a written reason, and the shortfall stays on record.
A shortfall needs no extra write-off. The first branch already lost the units when they were sent, and the second never gained them, so both stock counts are already right. What gets recorded is the explanation.
Isolation
Staff in one shop cannot see another.
Branch filtering is not just a dropdown. It applies to every query in the system. A user works in the shops they are assigned to and sees nothing outside them.
A manager with two branches sees those two, even in the combined view. Only someone with company-wide rights sees everything, and the cross-branch comparison report has its own permission.
Two things deliberately ignore branches: customer and vendor balances. What someone owes you does not depend on which shop you are looking at.
Numbering
Two shops can never issue the same number.
Each branch keeps its own counter, and the branch code is part of the document number. INV-MB-0907 can only have come from one shop.
You choose the format. Underneath it, two registers selling at the same second in different shops will never clash.
