Point of sale
A register that is part of your accounts.
Every sale at the counter goes straight into the same books as everything else. There is nothing to reconcile later.
Payments
Take payment however the customer wants to pay.
Part card, part cash, part bank transfer — as many lines as needed. The amount still to pay updates as each one is added.
If the customer hands over more cash than the total, the difference is change. The cashier sees it on screen, and it is never recorded as a payment.
Shifts
Four steps, with a person at each one.
No scheduled job closes a register at midnight, and no setting makes a difference disappear. A drawer is counted by a person, or it is not counted.

Open
The cashier counts the float and types in what is really there — not a default, not last night’s figure.

Sell
Sales, returns and exchanges. Any cash that goes in or out of the drawer for another reason gets a note.

Count
At the end of the shift, the cashier counts the drawer and enters the amount.

Record
The system compares what should be there with what was counted. The difference is saved on the shift and never changed.
Returns
Take returns at the counter.
Find the sale by its number. Each line shows what was sold and what can still be returned, so the same item cannot come back twice.
Refund to cash or card, or keep it as store credit. Add new items and it becomes an exchange — only the difference is paid. Swap like for like and no money moves at all.
A return at the register works exactly like a return in the office. It is the same process, so the two can never disagree about what a customer is owed.
Supervision
See the shop floor from anywhere.
Which registers are open, who is on them, how long they have been running, and how much cash should be in each drawer right now.
A cashier can only touch their own drawer. A supervisor can see all of them. A shift left open too long shows a warning, rather than closing itself and producing a report that covers two days.
On the counter
Works on the tablet you already have.
The register is a web page, so it runs on whatever is on the counter — a tablet, an old laptop, even a phone. A USB barcode scanner types into the scan box like a keyboard, because that is what it is.
